Let’s start with the retrospect. Since our departure we have called on ports in Dunkerque, Dover, Shoreham and Cowes. I have always felt connected to Dover, not the least because I used to live there as a kid. Living is maybe too strong an expression, as during the time my parents and my youngest sister and brother lived in Dover, my other brother and I went to boarding School in Belgium. Coming to visit them every fortnight during weekends was more the reality. My brother and I were still at primary School during those days, and we used to take the tram, then the ferry from Ostend to Dover, all by ourselves. I enjoyed coming to Dover. We lived in Park Avenue giving to Connaught Park where the four of us used to enjoy the play area. We had a beautiful garden full of roses, and the house had a big wooden staircase. During the night the wood would ”set” which made some cracking noises. We believed there were ghosts 🙂
During our stay in Dover a few days ago, we went to Park Avenue to see the house, and to Connaught Park where kids are still playing in the same play area. Actually much remained untouched. It felt good to think back about those times of my childhood. A moment of nostalgia.
