Cruising makes us discover a multitude of places, some more beautiful and interesting than others. Leaving A Coruna took us to past Finisterre into the wonderful area of the Spanish Ria’s (Muros, Arosa, Pontevedra and Vigo). We had no idea how beautiful this area is.
It would be easy to spend months in the Ria’s, sailing from one place to the other, visiting all these nice little towns and villages, set against the backdrop of the green hills.
Unfortunately, we have to make choices as we still want to leave Europe this year. We visited Camarinas shortly (north of Finisterre), and stayed in beautiful Muros for a few days. For the moment we are in Baiona, which marks the end point of the Ria’s, as much as the starting point to destinations in Portugal. Baiona is built around a beautiful bay. This is the place were the Pinta came back to after the discovery of the Americas. There is a replica here in the harbour which can be visited. Unbelievable how sailors in those times made their way across, and along the coasts, of the Atlantic. All they had were square sails, and no engine, no gps, no water maker, no weather forecasting system, etc.
Our next, and first port of call in Portugal, will be Viano Do Castello. In the meantime we continue to enjoy Baiona, with its beautiful beaches, nice shops and restaurants, and nice people, …and nice climate.
Hasta la proxima!
