Portugal, the land of Porto, Fado, beautiful views…and friendly people.

One full month have we been in Portugal. As opposed to the Spanish Ria’s we took our time to sail the Portuguese coast and visit some of its treasures. Viano Do Costelo, Porto, Coimbra with it’s beautiful University and it’s Coimbra fado, Alcobaca, Cascais, Sintra and last but not least Lisbon. All these places made a strong impression on us. And then, perhaps most of all, we cannot recall any instance whereby people anywhere, anytime, were unfriendly or unwilling to give a hand when we needed it. It has been all the opposite, very friendly and helpful people.
At the moment of writing this post we are listening to Fado music in the little space of our cabin, and you will not believe it, we savour a good glass of port all together. Currently we are in Oeiras, 20 minutes by train to Lisbon, 15 minutes to Cascais. Can it be more convenient?
Next week Tuesday we leave Silmaril in this beautiful spot and fly home for 2,5 weeks. We will be happy to visit family and friends. In the meantime we have been preparing our sailing boat for our journey to Madeira, and shortly after that to the Canary Islands. This will be a new experience…longer at sea. We keep you posted.
